 (1990 - 1993) Fourth Generation Honda Accord

The fourth generation Accord began with yet another basic body redesign. Now it resembled the first generation Acura Legend. First the Prelude and now the Acura Legnd. As usual the this generation vehicle was now a little larger and even though it was still considered a "compact" it was approaching the Ford Taurus in total size. In the United States this generation offered three different trim levels, the Accord DX, the Accord LX and the Accord EX.  Other trim lines in this generation were offered outside the United States

  •  The Accord once again took a commanding leadership position in the United States during this generation as being among the first to have optic reflectors with clear lenses on their headlights. This generation replaced the more standard  Accord sealed beam headlights. Another major difference in this generation compared to other automobile manufacturer was that the Accord sported a multi-reflector style head light while using a glass lens rather than one of polycarbonates that is found today on the Accord.

  •   Another major change to the Accord was a new Accord 2.2 liter, 16 valve engine, which replaced the earlier generation Accord 12 value 2.0 liter motor. Another major step for Accord cars was an all aluminum power train. comprising of both the engine and the transmission. The new 2.2 liter EFI engine now was standard equipment for all Accord models. A specially designed electronically controlled rear engine mount was installed on the Accord with automatic transmission. It had two fluid filled chambers which were separated by a computer controlled valve. Based on the rpm, the fluid in the Accord engine mount was routed in different paths to reduce vibrations.

  •  Two optional engines of 125 bhp and 130 bhp were offered on different Accord models. The EX model now had 10 more bhp, This was accomplished with a different exhaust manifold and larger pipes. Additional generation changes were 15 inch machined aluminum-alloy wheels, better upholstery, a sunroof, a rear stabilizer bar and a high power four speaker hi-fi system found only on the EX model.

  •   At the end of this generation, in 1991 was the announcement of the Accord Wagon which was now produced in both the United States at the Marysville, Ohio plant and also the plant in Sayama Japan.
