(2003 -2007) Honda Accord Seventh Generation
2003 saw the beginning of the seventh generation maintained the company's plan of a four year generation cycle, which was not followed in the prior generation. In America the car grew again. The sedan and the coupe were the basic models as before, but the coupe was no longer exported to either Europe or Japan under the Accord name. A major change for this generation cars.
The United States Accord continued its up scale image with chrome interior accents and higher grade interior materials. The Accord trim lines remained the same during this generation. A new four cylinder engine was announced and the V6 from the prior generation was maintained. there was an increase to 240 bhp. This was accomplished by modifications to both the intake system and the exhaust systems. The United States Accord for this generation was now larger with more interior room and its weight was more than its international counterparts. A new "enthusiast" Accord version was introduced with a sports suspension and the Acura CL's 6-speed manual transmission to the V6 Accord Coupe. Once again during this generation, the Accord shared ideas from either prior generation Acura cars.
- In 2003, towards the middle of the generation, the company's GPS assisted Navigation system was made an option on all Accord trim lines.
- In 2004 it was announced that a hybrid version which would be called the Accord Hybrid and it would be available in 2005. Another announcement was made in 2004 that the XM Satellite radio was now available as a factory installed Accord option.
- In 2005 a variety of changes were made to the Accord which included as standard side curtain and front seat side impact airbags, new wheel designs and modified Accord tail lights. These last two options were typical generation changes.
- 2006 saw the Accord thirtieth anniversary. So many changes were introduced in this Accord generation; that some people mentioned this was a 7.5 generation car. Significant modifications included new rear end styling for the Accord sedan, LED tail lights, with heated side mirrors for some models and daytime running lights.
- The Accord V6 models now offered Electronic Stability Control and Brake assist for the very first time. 17 inch wheels were now standard on the Accord. and the interior again received some upgrades. The V6 engine was increased to 244 bhp, while the four-cylinder model increased to 166 hp.
At the end of this generation in 2007 the color "Cool Blue Metallic" became available for the Accord sedan. It was earlier an option on the Accord coupe.
