Intake Filter Cleaning Kit
Why did you buy an AEM or K&N intake system? Did you get a cold air system or short ram intake system because you wanted more horsepower from your car? Now that you have had it for a while, do you realize that slowly over time you might be losing some of that new power? Have you noticed that your car is slow than it used to be? Has the sound changed or the level dropped so that you don't get that spine chilling roar anymore?
If you have experienced any of these changes the reason could be that your air filter is now clogged up and no longer as effective as it was when you first installed your system. There a couple of reasons that a cold air intake or a short ram system produces more power than a stock system. One of these is the special air filter that came with the system. These filters were designed to typically allow a larger volume of air through to your engine than a stock paper filter could.
But since your filter was designed to trap tiny particles before they entered the engine, it should make sense that after a while, it will become filled with the stuff it was designed to filter out? When that happens the filter can lose both it's effectiveness as a filter and it will start to block the passage of air into the combustion chambers of your car.
So now your filter can be causing the restrictions that you purchased the system to avoid. The answer is simple, get a cleaning kit and restore your filter to an almost new condition. If you don't get a cleaning kit, your system will slowly degrade.
Check out the company you bought your system from and see what they offer in the way of a filter cleaning kit. If they don't carry one, check out the manufacturers web site for cleaning kits.
Before you buy a cleaning kit keep in mind that some filters are treated with oil and some are designed to be dry in nature. You must get the correct filter cleaning kit to match the type of filter on your system. For example, AEM short ram, cold air intake and V2 systems have a dryflow filter cleaning kit, while K&E has a cleaning kit for filters that must be treated with oil.
