Why You Want an Accord Cold Air System

Lets see why you should get a new one. The atmosphere that enters your engine must pass through several devices before it gets to the combustion system and mixes with fuel to produce combustion and then power. Most car air intake systems are restrictive in nature because of space limitation in the engine compartment, and to reduce airflow noise. A very restrictive air system slows the flow entering the engine and it then reduces the potential power of your vehicle. A  cool air intake system helps restore some of this lost power.  Different systems and different cars will have a different amount of power increases. Some Accords have gained up to 10 additional horsepower.

It is a scientific fact that the lower the temperature of the air going into your engine, the denser it will be. Colder denser atmosphere increases the amount of oxygen that is available for combustion. The colder the air that you can bring into your engine, the more power output you will receive.

You can get more cool air in several ways.

  •   First, the atmosphere surrounding the engine can be very hot. If you could pull in air away from the engine, it would be cooler. One system method is to position the air intake further away from the engine heat so that it draws in colder air.

  •   The second system approach is to increase the diameter of this air intake, This of course allows more airflow into the engine.

  •   A third system approach is to design the device with slicker interior walls which will offer less restrictions to the airflow.

  •   A fourth system method is to have a very straight route, which reduces any restrictions.

  •   A fifth system method is to "tune" the total length of the intake. This system approach provides maximum amount of airflow at a particular engine speed. While you are pulling air into your engine you do not want to pull in dirt or other harmful particles. To insure this you need a very effective air filter. Most of these intake system will use a more efficient, less restricting  air filter. Many of them look like a cone.

But use a little caution as there can be some downside risks with this system. Cool atmosphere  may tend to increase the risk of ice building up in chilly weather. A cool air system may also pull water into the engine, if you drive into a water puddle. This depends where the cold air inlet is positioned. Now the decision is up to you, if you will choose this particular method of achieving more power out of your Accord.
