Why You Might Want an Accord NOS System
You May have heard about Nitrous Oxide systems and have seen movies or street cars use them and an instant power boost. This is a system that you can add to your car. Like other products these devices have both positive and negative sides. Let's take a look at some of them.
The power increase of a NOS System is real. A typical application will give you from 50 to 100% increase in horsepower peak with even more power at lower revs. When you compare a NOS system to other ways of boosting your power such as tuning, a turbocharger or a supercharger, a NOS systems cost would be about average.
One advantage of a NOS system is that you can remove it and move it to another car, which is not easy or practical with other power approaches.
Another advantage of a NOS system is that it does not wear out. A NOS system is also not vehicle specific like many other products that you might use to add to increased power. A NOS system can even be installed with a turbo system and eliminate some or all of the "turbo lag". If you need more power from your turbocharger system a NOS system may be the answer.
Now let's look at some of the down sides for a NO System.
- First the normal NOS system contains just one bottle of Nitrous Oxide, in a compressed liquid form. This entire bottle can be used up in as little as 20 seconds when you activate the NOS switch. So you get amazing amount of power, but only for a short time with a NOS system.
- Second while you can increase the horse power by 50% or more, most knowledgeable users have suggested keeping the NOS system boost to 25-35%. More than that with a NOS system can compromise engine durability. So while you might be thinking, wow I can get a 100% increase, it is not really practical.
- With a specially modified engine you can increase this NOS system level. These modifications will typically include forged pistons, stronger connecting rods, better bearings and several other modification to allow the engine to take the sudden increase in power without breaking.
- It is important that your NOS system delivers the nitrous oxide and the required additional fuel at the correct proportions. If you don't get the additional fuel into your engine you can be running with a lean air/nitrous to your fuel mixture. This can cause a detonation problem. Again you can harm your engine.
So before you go this route, make sure you understand what you are doing.
